Which Sand for Which Job?
Concrete sand is the workhorse: coarse, angular, and the correct bedding layer for pavers (1 inch screeded over a compacted QP base). It also mixes into concrete and works for drainage backfill.
Mason sand is finer and cleaner, made for mortar, masonry work, and anywhere you need a smooth finish. Many customers also use it for sandboxes and volleyball courts, though Caribbean white sand gives the brightest play sand finish.
Quantities
One cubic yard of sand covers about 100 square feet at 3 inches, or about 300 square feet at the 1 inch depth used for paver bedding. Sand is heavy, roughly 1.3 tons per yard, so bulk delivery beats bags on anything bigger than a sandbox.
Concrete sand, screeded to 1 inch over a compacted QP base. Do not use mason sand as bedding; it is too fine and holds water.
